Dance Flick
Review - Leslie Hurst for The Mungles on Movies
Do you like to move it-move it or bust a move? Do you like to play spot-the-movie in spoofs? Dance Flick could be the movie for you. Suburban ballet dancer Megan White is transplanted to the inner city after the death of her mother. She meets street-smart Thomas Uncles and begins to learn how to street dance. Parodies and misadventures abound as they head towards the mother of all dance offs. Movies like Dance Flick are not to be taken seriously. They are full of ridiculous gags and hilarious situations. This movie is no exception. While the jokes and gags are a tad tamer than your average sex comedy, they still jolt the modest audience member. The dance moves are pretty incredible including the obviously faked. The gags are hilarious and will have you in stitches. The entire Wayans clan came out for this film to support new Wayans on the radar, director Damien Dante Wayans and actor Damon Wayans Jr. Keep an eye out for Amy Sedaris as the ballet teacher. Her appearance is more than memorable. The rest of the movie is almost forgettable. With the exception of a few cameos and memorable quotes, most will suffer cinematic amnesia on the drive home from the theater. Dance Flick is rated PG-13 for crude and sexual content throughout, and language. I say that's a bit loose. I would have tagged this R for the sexual content and unwed teenage parenting practices parodied in this movie. This is not a movie for anyone under 16 or 17. Normally these movies aren't my cup of tea, but it was a good time if you know how to let go and just laugh. It's better to see this with a big group of friends who laugh really loud. I give Dance Flick 3 Wayans out of 5. |
