Review by Lisa "I aint scared of nothing" Murph

Main Photo “The Grudge 2”- starring Amber Tamblyn, Ariella Kebbel, Jennifer Beals, and Sarah Michelle Gellar

“The Grudge 2” takes us to darker secrets as the curse that “Once you see it, you can never forget. Once it sees you, you can never escape” spreads its evil and terror from a burned down house in Tokyo and infects everyone in its path. It’s director, Takashi Shimizu, gives us a more complex story and manages to add more layers to keep the watcher interested. However, the disorientation he leads us through did come across as a bit choppy and frantic in some instances. “The Grudge 2” may not have you jumping out of your skin with horror, but it is far more haunting and smart than most horror films.

What I appreciate most from this film is restraint- so many sequels feel like they need to add more gore, blood, and violence to out-do the last. “The Grudge 2” does lean on similar creepy body jerking imagery from its predecessor “The Grudge”, but Shimizu does have a few new tricks to guarantee some screams- and a few checks behind your shower curtain. I give this 3.5 out of 5 hideous, clicking vocals.
