Review by Jennifer Pflughaupt

Main Photo What do you get with an inherited shoe factory in Northampton, a load of workers, a girlfriend that wants to live large, no money and a transvestite as your inspiration? Kinky Boots! "Kinky Boots" is a film based on the true story of the Kinky Boots Shoe Factory in Northampton, England. This story just goes to show that once again my theory of truth is always more interesting and more mind boggling than fiction is correct. Starring a slew of new and familiar faces to American cinema are Joel Edgerton as the lucky inheritor, Chiwetel Ejiofor as the infamous Lola the transvestite, and Sarah-Jane Potts as the voice of reason.

Pic 1 Engaged and ready to get the heck out of Northampton, Charlie (Joel Edgerton) gets wind that his father has passed away. While sitting in his father's office at the shoe factory after the funeral, Charlie discovers the will leaving behind the factory to him. Growing up in the factory and having a personal relationship with almost every single factory worker, he felt a responsibility to keep it running, when all he really wants to do is get out of town and move on with his life.

Cusack / Lane Charlie tries desperately to save the Oxford shoe the factory makes by going into the city to strike up deals with the larger factories and shops. While there, he gets knocked out in an alley only to wake up to the most unusual person he has ever met - Lola the transvestite. The story evolves from there with the innovation of a new line of shoes, the Kinky Boot.

This wonderfully entertaining and surprisingly heart-warming film is about self-discovery, loyalty, acceptance, love and understanding along with a bit of fun in fashion! The acting is superb and Joel Edgerton should go down in the books as the quiet and subtle heartthrob of the new millennium. I fell in love with every single character in the film and I am so glad this was a true story! It made me love it even more. I give it 4 stilettos out of five, remember love, the sex is in the heel!
