Review by Jennifer Pflughaupt for The Mungles on Movies

Main Photo FINALLY, it is complete! "The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" is the third and irrefutable end to the extremely successful Disney-ride based Pirate trilogy. As a child I went to Disneyworld and I rode that very ride. Fourteen years later I heard that there was this flick coming out based on my favorite ride and I was totally excited, but a little worried at how Disney was going to make a decent Pirate film based solely on their theme park ride. But, as you ride a rollercoaster over and over again, it just gets more exhilarant each time.

Pic 1 The same goes for "The Pirates of the Caribbean" films. Each time you watch, you want more. This third installment definitely lives up to the hype. You get all the swashbuckling, pirate adventure you can handle and then some. As I fear to give away any surprises, I will not give a synopsis or details of the plot in this review. This is one film that you don't want to hear anything about, except for if it is worth paying the price of admission at the theater. IT IS! However, I will touch on a few things. A warning to those wanting to just see "At World's End" who haven't seen the first and especially the second one: SEE THE FIRST TWO OR YOU WILL BE TOTALLY LOST! I saw the first two and still the writing is a bit confusing at times and I found it hard to follow for most of the film until 2 hours later when they started tying everything together and it became much easier to understand who was who, and where was what and so on. That is marketing at its finest.

Cusack / Lane If you like the movie and you don't know exactly what you just watched, you will pay for another viewing because you want to see the little, minute details you think you missed that could explain a question you have now that you have seen the entire story from cover to cover. It is a long movie (168 minutes to be exact), so be sure to use the bathroom before you sit in the theater. The acting, once again is superb and there are a few new characters in the film that you might find interesting. If you know the behind the scenes trivia of any of the Pirate movies and the actors, you will go in and see. You'll have that whole Jesus effect; "OOOOOHHHHH!" (And then hopefully laugh.)

The first two films were a bit lighter and more humorous than this last one. At World's End is a perfect description for the tone of the story. As one can imagine, the world's end is probably not the ideal vacation spot. It would seem to me that the world's end is dark and violent and that is exactly how this adventure is shown throughout the film. But, it is exactly that - an adventure! I give "The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" 4 out of 5 Calypsos. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action/adventure violence and some frightening images. (For those of you with young children, use caution going into this one. It is much more violent than the first two.)
