Remember Me
Review - Leslie Hurst for The MungleShow
There is at least one person in everyone's life that has left an indelible mark that will never be forgotten. A parent, a sibling, a child, a friend, or a mentor who has changed the course of your life by something they said or did. Their fingerprint will never fade from your life.
In the movie, Remember Me, Robert Pattinson plays Tyler Hawkins, a young man wandering lost in his life yet trying to help his family still coping with the loss of a sibling years before. He meets a young woman, played by Emily De Raven, who strives to soak the life from every moment as if it's her last after witnessing her mother's murder as a young girl. Together they help each other heal from their pasts while the circumstances that brought them together could very well tear them apart.
I don't think I can find the words to describe how stunning a drama this is. It's a stirring story of a young man still dealing with the loss of an influential brother while locking horns his overly busy father concerning his apparent lack of interest in the life of Tyler's younger sister. The performance of everyone in the cast is winning. You want to cheer Robert Pattinson as the champion of his sister's cause. You want to smack Pierce Brosnan for his lack of interest in the lives of his surviving children. Your heart goes out to this hurting family. Emily De Raven is wonderful as the protected daughter of a police detective who is perhaps too involved in his daughter's life. This is really a gem of a film that will still be taking your breath away days later.
Plain and simple, I loved it. I'd recommend this to all of my friends. I was so moved that it took me a couple of minutes to collect myself before driving home in silence. I love movies that bring on strong emotional reactions like that. That being said, a PG-13 film like this might be a bit strong for anyone younger than that. Also keep in mind that this film has scenes of violence, sex, language, and smoking which might not be appropriate for the little ones. I give Remember Me 5 out of 5 giant stuffed pandas for sheer beautiful brilliance.
