Review by Jennifer Pflughaupt
"The Wild" starring the famous voices of Jim Belushi,
Jeanane Garofalo, Kiefer Sutherland, Eddie Izzard,
Richard Kind and William Shatner would make you think
this film will make for a hilarious animated feature.
Think again.
A lion cub can't find his roar because he hasn't ever
lived in the wild. His father (Keifer Sutherland)
tried to help him but it just doesn't work out. The
story ends up on the streets of New York with all the
zoo pals and then on a boat headed to Africa where
they are met by a group of Wilder beasts led by Kazar
(William Shatner) that like to dance and sing, but
hate lions. Somehow they made it across the entire
Atlantic Ocean on a tug boat that the animals drove
too. Sound somewhat familiar?
Although the film might be fun for a young audience,
10 and under at best, I felt like I was watching a
poor knock off of "Madagascar". It was as close to a
carbon copy as you can get in the movie making
business without being sued. Being a fan of animation,
especially of the Pixar and Disney type, I was poorly
disappointed and the story was a huge let down that
lacked originality. The only saving grace to The Wild
was the comic relief of Jim Belushi as Benny the
Chipmunk and Eddie Izzard as Nigel the English Kuala
Bear, not to mention a good soundtrack with the likes
of Coldplay and Lifehouse. Overall, I give "The Wild"
2 roars out of 5.
